Fun

Let’s be real, Christmas shopping can be a doozy of an expense when it comes to getting gifts for all your loved ones. Rather than worrying about what to get everyone and having enough money to share the Christmas cheer, why not make your own gifts? Not only will they save you a bit of cash, but they’ll mean more to your friends and family when they realize you hand-crafted a gift just for them.

Here are our top five favorite Christmas gifts that anyone can easily make. No special talents or super powers required!

Baked Goods

The way to your loved one’s heart is through their stomach, right? Sweet treats are a sure-fire way to easily win over anyone and these delectable delicacies are usually inexpensive to make.

If your friend or family member has a favorite cookie flavor, try your hand at whipping up a dozen for them! Sugar cookies are super easy to make and fun to decorate. If you have a steady hand, maybe try icing them to look like snowflakes or snowmen so that way they are extra festive. Just make sure to always measure your ingredients perfectly and pay attention to the baking instructions. You don’t want to gift someone sugar flavored hockey pucks or burnt treats. Trust us...we’ve been there.

Customized Photo Frame

If you need a gift for someone who is very sentimental about savoring memories and moments, how about printing a photo of a special time you shared with this person and creating a custom frame for it? You can find plain picture frames and supplies to decorate them at the dollar store or any craft store. If you’re creating a frame for your spouse, perhaps use a photo from your wedding or first date and stencil the date of your anniversary on the frame. Or, if you’re a parent gifting a photo to your kid’s grandparents, frame a picture of your kiddos and have them write special messages to grandma and grandpa around the frame. Don’t forget to sign and date the back!

Additionally, if crafting isn’t necessarily your idea of a grand time, consider creating a photobook out of some of your favorite images. All you need to do is select the images you want to gift and send them to a company that specializes in photobooks. It’s quick, easy, and relatively cheap to do!

Whatever you choose to do, these special gifts will last a lifetime.

Coffee/Cocoa Mug Mixers

This one is for coffee or hot cocoa lovers! You can take decorative spoons and dunk the end into melted chocolate for an added burst of flavor that can be mixed into any cup of joe or cocoa. Before the chocolate dries, sprinkle on some crushed peppermint candies, peanut butter chips, or even espresso beans for an added pack of flavors. Wrap them with plastic wrap and tie a bow around the spoons to keep them fresh -- voila! You have an amazing gift!

Map Coasters

If you have a loved one that is passionate about traveling or just loves where they live, make them a set of map coasters. Order a set of plain glass coasters and either use actual maps or print out maps online of your loved one’s favorite places. Cut out the maps to fit the coaster and glue them on. After they dry, use a clear enamel spray paint to coat the tops so that way they will be water resistant. This can be such a clever gift to commemorate someone taking a trip abroad or encourage them to finally visit the places they’ve been talking about for so long.

Framed Pressed Flowers

This one is especially sweet for ladies that love flowers. If your favorite gal has a favorite type of flower that you can find in season right now, grab a bunch (Trader Joe’s always has amazing deals on fresh flowers) and press them in glass frames. You can get really creative with the color of the flowers that you use and even arrange them to create different patterns. What a special way to keep their favorite flowers year round! It also makes a beautiful home decor piece.

No matter how small your budget may be, there are plenty of ways to make a special gift that speaks volumes over the latest expensive tech gadget or trendy gift. Roll up those sleeves, visit your local craft store, and get to work. Before you pick a gift to make for your friend or family member, think hard about what they love. If you make a gift that is close to their heart, it will be even more impressive to them!
