by Savanna Kiefer

New year, new movies! Escape from the cold this winter and catch a flick at your local theater. Whether you’re in the mood for a scary movie or want to watch something with the whole family, the new year’s got you covered. Here are our top picks for movies coming out in January and February!

For the Family

Remember those moments as a kid where you looked up in a store and for a moment you couldn’t find your parents? That feeling of being lost is always an anxious one. Maybe you were one of those kids who took advantage of those moments before you found your parents and made the most of it -- maybe you stood very still and just cried. A lot can happen between lost and found. A Dog’s Way Home tells the story of a dog named Bella that accidentally runs away from it’s beloved owner while chasing a squirrel and ends up completely lost. She then has to travel more than 400 miles to find her way back home. Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World), the voice of Bella, said this film is great for young kids. Catch it in theaters on January 11, 2019.

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part takes place five years after the hilarious first LEGO movie as Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends have to defeat new enemies and restore peace to the LEGO universe. It releases in theaters on February 8, 2019.

Our beloved dragon is back in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World! While Hiccup tries to fulfill his dream of creating a peaceful dragon utopia, his pal Toothless makes a scary discovery. When danger rises at home and Hiccup's reign as village chief is put to the test, Hiccup and Toothless must team up to save their people. See it in theaters on February 22, 2019.

Action Flicks

Glass, the final installment of the Unbreakable series, follows character David Dunn (Bruce Willis) as he pursues The Beast (James McAvoy) from the sequel, Split. Meanwhile, a mysterious man who goes by 'Mr. Glass' (Samuel L. Jackson) surfaces -- a puppet-master holding secrets critical to both men. You can catch this movie on January 18, 2019.

Date Night

Wrestling fans, you’ll love this one! Fighting with My Family is a comedy film based on the documentary about WWE professional wrestler Paige as she rises to stardom in a family of wrestlers. The film also features Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as himself. You can laugh along with this funny take on a true story February 14, 2019.

The Upside is a comedy-drama starring Kevin Hart as a recently paroled convict that is hired to help a paralyzed billionaire played by Bryan Cranston. This hilarious and heartwarming story will be released on January 11, 2019.

Ladies’ Night Out

Inspired by the 2000 film starring Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt called What Women Want, a new take on this story is about to hit the big screen. What Men Want is about a successful sports agent named Ali that is constantly one-upped and left out by her male co-workers. When she is overlooked for a well-deserved promotion, she seeks help and in turn gets the power to read the minds of all men around her. This one is sure to be a crowd-pleaser and make you laugh like crazy! Watch it on February 8, 2019.

Rebel Wilson stars in Isn’t It Romantic as a young woman that wakes up after getting mugged on the streets of New York with a life you literally only see in movies. She quickly realizes that the world around her is just like your typical PG-13 romantic comedy -- and she’s playing the star that has to fall in love in order to get back to reality. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, you can watch it on February 14, 2019.

It looks like comedies are a trend for the new year, and we’re alright with that! 2019 is kicking off strong with these top movies but we want to know -- which new film are YOU most excited for?
